Food in Vivaldi, Day 7

While the traditional korean fare on this trip has so far been delicious, the tastes of kimchi, gochujang and the many stews can get repetitive after a while. With that in mind, we opted for a change in scenery and ordered some hearty fried chicken.

Situated among the many fried chicken restaurants vying for attention of Vivaldi's throngs of guests, Story Runs is an Alice in Wonderland-inspired establishment that serves up simple and satisfying fried chicken.

The concept of dipping the fried chicken pieces in fondues of Cream and Tomato won our hearts from the first bite. The restaurant offers dipping sauces of Cream and Tomato (which are what we ate) and an elusive (it was unavailable at the time) but intensely flavourful-sounding Garlic dip. With the sauces came a selection of additional toppings that included white button mushrooms, chilli, the perennial favourite Mozerella cheese and more. The result was a fun experience trying to catch a slice of mushroom on whatever bit of chicken each of us was holding; and twirling up the strands of cheese that clung on to our chicken from the dipping. Another thing to be noted was that the chicken wasn’t dripping in oil. That made the dish all the more comfortable as it didn’t feel like we were guzzling old-fashioned heart-stopping (literally) guilt-tripping KFC drumstick but a much more simple and tasty version. It also made the pork belly we ate on other occasions look like the poster food of heart disease.

The second thing we had was a generous serving of buffalo wings. If there’s anything we’ve learnt about eating in Korea – it’s that they never stinge on portions. Limiting on meal sizes must not be in their culture, making all the more wonder about how everyone in the country manages to stay so slim. I digress, but it simply must be said that I hardly saw any Korean girls or boys that were in any way out of shape even while walking the streets. Back to the topic, the buffalo wings were sweet and again, not very oily. All the chicken was well-marinated (as barbecued wings should always be) with the stuff of heavens and made a pleasantly sweet end to our departure from everything else we ate on the trip. Check out the eating in action!

'til then!
