Drama Momma!

The Korean Broadcasting System(KBS) is one of the top national broadcasting stations in the country. Like its competitor - the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation(MBC) - KBS produces original television dramas and radio shows. Our visit to the KBS Drama Centre in Suwon revealed to us exactly what goes on behind the scenes of our favorite dramas. 

When we first entered the building, we were greeted by live sized standees of the lead actors and actresses of the famous drama, IRIS. Having watched this drama before, I recognized them immediately and of course, had my 'little fangirl' moment. 

That moment didn't last long though. Our guide for the day then brought us around the drama centre. We were told that all major dramas produced by KBS were shot there. This piece of information sparked a glimmer of hope that I'd see at least one celebrity, but we were told that our chances of seeing anyone famous was very slim. 

Then, we were shown live sized models of the different cameras used in KBS in the past. We were introduced to two different types of cameras, the multi camera and the ENG camera. The Munro camera is used for studio shootings while the ENG camera is used for outdoor shootings.

Next, we were shown a special makeup room where we were scared out of our wits at the sight of thousands of mannequins and props used in thriller/horror dramas. These mannequins were so life like, it gave me the shudders just staring at them. 

Lastly, we were shown both indoor and outdoor shooting sets. I was surprised that the indoor studios were so small, but our guide told us that sets are usually 80% the real size. The outdoor sets were just as jaw dropping. The houses and streets looked so real, it seemed as though we were really walking through the streets of an olden day Korea.

I had really looked forward to this visit and I'm glad we managed to get the opportunity to go to KBS. If I'm lucky enough to get a second chance to go again, hopefully I'll see one of my favorite celebs!
