Of all the world’s edible offerings, stews and soups are my favourite. It might have to do with my dialect group (we cantonese love our soups) or it could just be the simple nature of its preparation that still makes it delectable enough to whet any appetite. It is also a familiar enough dish that is a homely, comfort food. Our lunch and dinner were lovely introductions to Korean’s soup culture and it sure kept our bodies warm against the biting winds of Seoul’s autumn!
Introducing Sogogi Jungol (beef stew) and Samgyetang (Ginseng chicken soup)!
The first scoop I took after the beef left the pot of heavenly aroma, was intensely flavourful thanks to the flawless mix of beef, onion, spring onion, carrot, leek and a mysteriously sweet and delicious broth. Our host, Zoer, also taught us her way of enjoying the Sogogi Jungol at the famous Ju Shin Jung restaurant, check out the video for more!
Samgyetang (Ginseng chicken soup)
We also managed to savour the taste of Korea's signature dish, Samgyetang. The steaming broth consisting of chicken stuffed with soft glutinous rice and wonderfully piquant ginseng satiated our tastebuds as well as provided a good amount of health benefits, making it one gratifyingly scrumptious meal. For more on our experience eating Samgyetang, take a look at our video!
Hope you're enjoying our posts so far! Make sure to check out this blog every day to read more about our adventures in Seoul ☺
