The Style And Substance Of Seoul (Day 02)

Fashion has always been a rather whimsical way of expressing oneself.

Always erratic, often intriguing and occasionally startling, fashion has dramatically manifested over the decades. From the days of cravats and tailcoats, to the current days of dip-dyed hair and killer heels, the term “haute couture” has been tossed about in all manner of ways.

Sure, one could swoon over the branded looks of New York Fashion Week, what with their custom tailored looks from Raoul or Prada, flaunted (or not) by frighteningly gaunt models.

The genuine form of fashion though, wouldn’t be found on the television or internet, but rather on the streets. Perhaps street fashion spawned from a myriad of fashion trends, and perhaps the looks are flawed in the eyes of renowned designers.

There is, however, an edge that street fashion has over all the branded looks that are being strutted on runways every season. Each and every look on the street is kissed and tinged by a touch of individualistic style.

Today, we stumbled upon Seoul’s very own fashion runway, and it came in the form of Hongik University Street. Filled with daring youths, all willing to gamble with the chances of committing a fatal fashion error, we hit a gold mine.

An absolute melting pot of personal looks, we took a few snapshots of some unique individuals.

Jopok: "Oh my god, can i buy those pants?"

Jopok: "For the first time, the duck-face actually looks rather alluring..."

Jopok: "Mmm I'd love to go to school in that get-up."

Jopok: "Pink New Balance shoes weren't what we expected... In the news, look at her complexion!"

Jopok: "Someone finally pulls off a plaid shirt better than Dynn."

Jopok: "A couple get-up that doesn't make us retch."

Jopok: "The biggest mystery of all - do the spectacles have lenses?  ;)"

After witnessing an entire spectrum of stunning get-ups from the people of Seoul in a single day from one street alone, we were left with one legit explanation that could answer to the contrast between Hongik University Street and Orchard Road.

The people weather.
